Lester scores twice, Diaz Nicholas kicks 5 FGs, Marshall controls Old Dominion 36-23

In a thrilling 36-23 victory over Old Dominion, TJ Lester showcased his dual-threat capabilities with two touchdowns, while Jorge Diaz Nicholas broke the school record with five field goals. Marshall's defensive prowess shone as he turned four turnovers into 20 points. Throughout the game, Caleb Clark-Gloer, Daytione Smith and Charles McCartherens all managed to intercept a pass by Jaxon Potter.

Diaz Nicholas' field goals came from impressive distances of 35, 30, 24, 40, and 24 yards. Lester's game-changing run began when Kenyatt Hardge II sacked Potter and forced a fumble on the game's second snap, with Cannon Mu Lewis recovering at the 26-yard line. Just four plays later, Lester burst through the middle for a 4-yard touchdown.

The defense then swiftly pinned the Monarchs deep within their own territory, and one play after a punt, Lester sprinted 49 yards for another touchdown. Marshall (5-3, 2-2 Sun Belt Conference) started five drives in Old Dominion territory. Despite being outgained 409-336 in total yards and converting only 2 of 14 third-down plays, Marshall held the ball for over 10 minutes longer than Old Dominion.

The Marshall quarterbacks combined for 142 passing yards with an interception, while Judah Price rushed for 82 yards and Lester added 76 yards. Potter completed 8 of 18 passes for 329 yards for Old Dominion (2-7, 1-5), with Josh Rodriguez amassing 143 receiving yards on nine catches. Maurki James contributed with two rushing touchdowns and Brandon Crutchfield returned an interception 44 yards for a score.

Looking ahead, Marshall will face Georgia Southern next Saturday, while Old Dominion travels to Coast Carolina.
