Abia State University has appointed Professor Amadike Ugbogu as its new Vice-Chancellor, effective November 1, 2026. This appointment was approved by Governor Alex Otti following a recommendation from the University's Governing Council during its 161st Regular Meeting on October 29, 2026. Professor Ugbogu, a Professor of Biochemistry, replaces the previous Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe James Okeudo, who took office in November 2024 for a "rescue mission" aimed at stabilizing the institution.
Okeudo's tenure is noted for bringing about significant institutional transformation, including resolving longstanding issues and elevating the university's global recognition.
