5 Years Later, a Dropout Star's Breakout Thriller Is Officially Free on Streaming
Can Josh Ruben make a funny movie about a murderous lycanthrope? No Problem
In 2021, horror filmmaker Josh Ruben released an adaptation titled Werewolves Within. The film, based on a social deduction VR game, is set in the modern town of Beaverton, Vermont. When ranger Finn Wheeler arrives, he finds the main road blocked by an avalanche and a mystery surrounding the town's power outage. Finn soon discovers the mutilated body of the local motel owner, leading him to investigate the town's possible werewolf problem.
The movie features an ensemble cast of eccentric characters, including retired tech millionaires, conspiracy theorists, and a curious zoologist. Despite its potential as a tense comedy-thriller, Werewolves Within occasionally prioritizes humor over suspense, occasionally undercutting its intended scares. Viewers can stream Werewolves Within for free on Tubi, Sling TV, Philo, and PLEX.
