2 foreign nationals die of suspected electrocution in Bengaluru hotel pool

Two foreign nationals, a German and a Slovak citizen, lost their lives in the Conrad Hotel's swimming pool in Bengaluru's Ulsoor area on Friday evening. Two others, an American guest and an Indian attendant, suffered injuries while trying to rescue the victims. The incident took place on the hotel's third-floor pool. The injured are receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital and are reported to be stable.

The German victim was a member of Lufthansa's flight crew and was in Bengaluru for a layover. Lufthansa has confirmed the crew member's death but has not disclosed any further details. Two other Lufthansa crew members were reportedly using the pool at the time of the incident. The underwater pool lighting system is suspected to be the cause of the electrical shock, but the exact sequence of events and the technical cause remain under investigation.

The police have not confirmed whether an electrical fault in the underwater lighting triggered the incident. The American guest and Indian attendant who attempted to rescue the victims were also injured and are out of danger. Lufthansa has arranged psychological support for the affected crew members. The German media reports suggest that the Conrad Hotel was providing accommodation for Lufthansa crew members during their stay in Bengaluru.

The Andhra Pradesh police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident, focusing on the swimming pool's electrical systems, underwater lighting, and maintenance records to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths. The exact cause of the incident and whether any safety lapses contributed to the tragedy are yet to be established.
