Woman dies after bee attack at Trans Nzoia ADC farm

On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, a 60-year-old woman named Jesca Mongina Moenga tragically passed away after being attacked by a swarm of bees at the Katuke Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) farm in Kwanza Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County. The incident took place around 2:06 pm as approximately 50 people were collecting leftover maize at the farm following the harvest.

The bees, believed to have been hiding among the maize stalks, embarked on their attack while the victims were busy gathering the maize remnants. Moenga, overwhelmed by the multiple stings, collapsed shortly after the swarm's assault and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was immediately transported to PowerPlus Clinic, but medical professionals were unable to revive her, and she was subsequently pronounced dead.

Her body was then sent to Kijana Wamalwa Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

The bee attack left more than 10 other individuals with injuries, who were treated at Twiga Health Centre and later discharged in stable condition. The identities of the other victims have not yet been confirmed and will be released once available. Police in Kwanza Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the bee attack, but no further details have been provided at this time.

Additionally, authorities have discovered the body of an unidentified man in KCC Forest, in the Lion area, within Trans Nzoia County. The deceased, who was half-naked, partially decomposed, and appeared severely malnourished, was found with no visible external injuries on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The police have stated that the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding his demise remain unknown as the investigation continues.
