The Daily Show's Jordan Klepper took aim at Donald Trump and the Republican Party over their fearmongering ahead of the midterm elections, particularly concerning Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. During Thursday's monologue, Klepper mocked the GOP's claims of "nightmare" scenarios if Democrats won, and addressed Trump's refusal to pronounce El-Sayed's name correctly.
Joined by a jack-o'-lantern and a cursed credit card statement, Klepper riffed on the party's scare tactics. The show then played conservative media figures mispronouncing El-Sayed's name, followed by a series of ominous thunder and lightning sounds. Klepper firmly stated that the candidate's name merely denoted his Muslim faith, not a reason for fear.
He concluded by mocking Trump's pronunciation of El-Sayed's name, labeling him as an "Islamophobic minion." Senator Bernie Moreno's rally comments, suggesting El-Sayed was unsuitable for Washington due to his religious beliefs, were also criticized by Klepper, who pointed out the party's hypocrisy in opposing a Hindu candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, based on religious grounds.
