PENAMPANG, October 30 — Two rural road upgrades in Penampang's Kampung Buayan and Kampung Terian, with a combined cost of RM173.263 million, are ahead of schedule, according to Sabah deputy chief minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick. The RM73.868 million Kampung Buayan project, involving a 5.6-kilometre stretch and two bridges, is 76.64 per cent complete, 45 days early, and set to finish in August 2027.
The RM99.395 million Kampung Terian upgrade, covering a 6.7-kilometre stretch, is 57.83 per cent finished, 58 days ahead, and on track for a May 2028 completion. Both projects, funded by the Federal Government through the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, are monitored by the Sabah Public Works Department. Ewon praised the projects' progress during a visit, expressing hope for timely completion.
The Kampung Terian project received a one-year extension for land acquisition and bridge construction. Ewon and Penampang assemblyman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin discussed the projects at a district development meeting to ensure ongoing monitoring. Ewon and Donald also aim to secure funding for extending the rural road alignment to Kampung Longkogungan as part of the Penampang Development Master Plan 2024-2035.
They hope the upgrades will enhance infrastructure for residents and visitors. Ewon further promised assistance in obtaining land titles for residents through the Sabah Native Customary Land Services Programme (PANTAS). He presented roofing sheets to 33 households and pledged similar aid to 44 more families.
