Panthers fire defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero following 27-19 loss to the Packers

The Carolina Panthers have dismissed defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley in the wake of their 27-19 defeat to the Green Bay Packers. This marks the first time an NFL coordinator has been dismissed during the season. The Panthers entered the game ranked 22nd overall in defense and last in the league against the run.

Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love delivered a strong performance, completing 30 of 41 passes for 288 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. The team's struggles on defense have been exacerbated by the absence of starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, who are currently on injured reserve. Interim defensive coordinator Todd Wash, who has 31 years of coaching experience, including 20 in the NFL, will now take charge of the defensive plays.

Wash previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, where they ranked second in the league in defense in 2017 and advanced to the AFC Championship game. In addition to Wash, defensive line coach AC Carter and secondary coach Renaldo Hill will assume expanded roles in overseeing the defensive line and defensive backs, respectively.

The Panthers' head coach, Dave Canales, is scheduled to provide further comments on the personnel decisions later on Friday.
