Mike Tomlin Could Be Hottest NFL Coaching Candidate—If He Wants Back
His broadcasting success could outweigh lucrative NFL coaching offers.
Mike Tomlin, a 54-year-old former NFL head coach, could become the hottest coaching candidate in the league if he wishes to return to the field. According to sources, Tomlin's contract with NBC may permit him to leave his current position as a broadcaster for an NFL coaching job. However, factors such as the demands of coaching compared to his promising broadcasting career will be taken into consideration.
Tomlin has been praised in his first half-season of work as a studio analyst for NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcasts and has a history of success, leading the Steelers to 13 playoff appearances, two Super Bowl wins, and never having a losing season in 19 years. Despite the financial terms of his NBC contract remaining undisclosed, it is believed to be lucrative and allows him to return to coaching if he chooses to do so.
NFL teams are expected to consider Tomlin as their top choice for any coaching position, with one NFL team official stating that his return could force other teams to create openings.
