The Federal Government has launched a monthly cash relief programme, offering N50,000 to vulnerable households to alleviate the impact of rising living costs. Dr Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, announced this initiative, known as the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), during a statement issued in Abuja.
NERSI is a presidential program aimed at providing immediate financial assistance to millions of vulnerable Nigerians in response to global food inflation and the increasing costs of essential goods. Under NERSI, eligible beneficiaries will receive N50,000 each month, directly assisting them in meeting essential needs and easing the burden of living costs.
The ministry is working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent delivery of the funds, with beneficiaries receiving text messages to consent to the payments being made into their bank accounts or mobile wallets. Beneficiaries are not required to apply, pay any fees, or register through agents.
The minister cautioned Nigerians against fraudsters and advised them not to disclose personal identification numbers (PINs) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to anyone. NERSI complements existing social protection and economic support programs and aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
