Edifier G5 Max wireless gaming headset review
Lightweight, long-lasting, but lacking.
The Edifier G5 Max is a wireless gaming headset that boasts an impressive 305-hour battery life, surpassing that of the original HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless. Although it comes at a premium price of $150/$160, its battery life stands out as a major selling point. However, the headset suffers from a few drawbacks. The default sound profile is rather boxy, requiring extensive EQ adjustments to improve.
The microphone quality is also lacking, as it is both dull and challenging to tweak, despite the availability of several software options. The lightweight design, weighing just 305 grams, makes for comfortable long-term wear. However, the ear cup plastics are excessively thin and unrefined, and the headband's clamping force is insufficient, causing the headset to slip during movement.
While the thick, comfortable headband provides a pleasant fit, the overall build quality feels cheap, given the price point. Although the connectivity options, including THX Spatial Audio+ and Bluetooth 6.0, offer a range of features, the headset's sound quality remains lacking for everyday use, necessitating heavy-handed EQ adjustments.
