AP Decision Notes: What to expect in Vermont on Election Day

The Associated Press (AP) has announced that Vermont voters will be electing federal and state officeholders and other leaders on Election Day. The AP Decision Team will monitor key races for governor, U.S. House, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, statewide ballot measures, state Senate, state House, state auditor, and state treasurer.

In the 2022 U.S. Senate race, about 286,000 votes were cast, with 67% of them cast early or by absentee ballot. Vermont's election process is unique, with 247 separate jurisdictions handling local elections, and results can vary in how and when they are released. The AP does not make projections and will declare a winner only when it's determined that no trailing candidate can close the gap.
