'Whence the Weeping' quest walkthrough in Phantom Blade Zero

Whence the Weeping is an early side quest in Phantom Blade Zero that involves locating the source of a mysterious weeping. Unlike other similar side missions, this particular quest is more complex and takes longer to complete. This article provides a walkthrough of how to successfully finish the Whence the Weeping quest.

The quest begins shortly after Soul wakes up following a carriage sequence in Weeping Creek Valley. Initially, no progress can be made on the quest, but you can gather some information about it. After completing the main quest Against the Flow and meeting Yu er, a girl seeking a Flesh Lily to save her father, you can choose to ask about the Woman's Weeping. From there, progress depends on various factors.

As you move to the next area, the Whence the Weeping quest icon will appear on the Crimson Forest map. To progress, you must defeat the final boss of this area. The quest's objective later shifts to whether Chord, Inanis's daughter, could be the source of the weeping in the northern mountains. To reach this location, you must first defeat the Flame, the Mask-Bound Lion Dance Grandmaster, in Meigu Lake. This requires completing the main quest in Pangzhen.

Upon defeating the Flame, you will obtain the Dormant Flaming Mane story item, which can be repaired into the Flaming Mane phantom edge. Using this item at the Pavilion of Knowledge Crossroads bell and heading east, you can burn away roots blocking a path and reach the Meigu Lake area. Before taking the boat, ensure you have completed the Illusory Pipa side quest. This will allow you to disperse a mist blocking the Weeping Mistgate on the northeastern side of Meigu Lake.

Once at the Mountain of Imprisonment, defeat its final boss, Huangxing, the Kunlun Renegade, to complete the quest. You will receive the Flying Guillotine phantom edge as a reward.
