Vietnam's Vinacomin to keep coal output at 40 million tons a year up to 2030, state media reports

Hanoi, October 29 - Vietnam's major mining company Vinacomin has announced plans to maintain coal production at 40 million metric tons annually through 2030, primarily to satisfy domestic demand, according to state media reports on Thursday. The company aims to achieve this target by developing 18 mining projects in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Furthermore, Vinacomin intends to import an additional 10 to 20 million tons of coal per year to meet the demand. Coal continues to be a crucial fuel for Vietnam's thermal power plants and is essential for ensuring the country's energy security. The company emphasized that ensuring a sufficient coal supply for thermal power plants is fundamental to maintaining the power system's operation and safeguarding national energy security. It is worth noting that Vinacomin remains under the 100% state ownership until at least 2030.
