Torrevieja Tennis Club Mourns the Death of Founding Member Tomás Bascuñana Cases

The Torrevieja Tennis Club mourns the passing of one of its founding members, Tomás Bascuñana Cases, a renowned veteran tennis player and highly respected figure in the sport. The club announced his death on October 28, 2026, reflecting on the significant role he played in the club's history and development over more than five decades. Established in 1973, Torrevieja Tennis Club has grown into a prominent sporting institution, largely due to the dedication of members like Bascuñana.

Throughout his career, Bascuñana represented the club in various regional and national team competitions, achieving considerable success. Among his most notable accomplishments was helping the club finish as runners-up in the Spanish National Over-65 Team Championship. His outstanding performance in the final against Real Club de Tenis Barcelona, where he defeated Enric Sanmarti 6-2, 6-1, is particularly remembered.

Moreover, he was a key member of the club’s Over-70 team, which reached multiple consecutive finals of the Valencian Community Championship. Bascuñana continued competing in the Over-75 category, reaching further regional finals, showcasing his unwavering passion and dedication to tennis.
