Spacewalkers Install Roll-Out Solar Array for Power Generation

On November 3, NASA astronaut Anil Menon and CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk ventured outside the International Space Station for a spacewalk to install a Roll-Out Solar Array (IROSA). The duo successfully completed the 7-hour, 11-minute mission, which was the 100th spacewalk for Menon and his first for Kutryk. This was also the 285th spacewalk dedicated to maintaining the station's power system.

The IROSA, the seventh one installed on the ISS, will generate additional power for vital operations, including a safe and controlled deorbit. Menon and Kutryk also carried out preparatory tasks for the upcoming spacewalk scheduled for November 5th, when they will install the final IROSA on the 3B power channel.

Once all eight IROSAs are installed, the total power generation capacity will increase by up to 30%, boosting the station's power from 160 kilowatts to approximately 215 kilowatts. The successful installation of these arrays signifies a significant enhancement in the International Space Station's power generation capabilities.
