Seth Meyers expressed confusion over President Trump's continued ridicule of Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton. During his "A Closer Look" segment on Wednesday, Meyers questioned the motivation behind Trump's relentless mocking of Paxton's speech and appearance. Comparing the closing remarks of Trump and former President Obama, Meyers noted that while Obama emphasized the importance of remembering values, Trump took the opportunity to praise the rear ends of celebrities like Nicki Minaj and Jon Husted.
Meyers suggested that Trump might reconsider his stance on Paxton if he were to receive a similar compliment directly. However, at most campaign stops for Paxton, Trump has consistently mocked the candidate's mannerisms and attire. On Tuesday, Trump even remarked, "Maybe I should do that with Ken Paxton, but I'm not sure your body is going to qualify."
Meyers sarcastically asked, "Are you trying to get this guy elected, or are you trying to convince him to jump off a building?" He added, "You're supposed to be his hype man, not the mom from 'Carrie!'" "Late Night with Seth Meyers" is broadcast weeknights at 12:35 a.m. ET.
