Netflix identifies Donald Glover to write, direct, and star in PUBG series
Donald Glover will bring 2017's most popular game, PUBG, to Netflix.
Netflix has announced plans to turn the popular video game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) into a TV series, despite Fortnite's success in the battle royale genre. The streaming giant has enlisted the talents of Donald Glover, who will serve as writer, director, and star of the project. Glover will collaborate with his brother and frequent collaborator, Stephen, on the adaptation.
The Glovers have previously worked together on Atlanta, Swarm, and Mr. And Mrs. Smith, showcasing their unique storytelling style. PUBG, a multiplayer battle royale game, pits players against up to 100 opponents in last-man-standing deathmatches. The game gained significant traction in 2017, leading Epic Games to revamp its own battle royale title, Fortnite, with a similar focus.
The announcement of the PUBG series comes after Netflix scrapped a deal to adapt a selection of Xbox games, following the termination of executives involved in the project.
