AI

Most AI tutors are just cheat sheets. We built Guidey to fix that.

Most AI tools today work the exact same way: You ask a question. The AI gives you the complete, polished answer. You copy and paste it. And ten minutes later, you have no idea how it was actually solved. It feels like productivity, but it\'s really just outsourcing your own brain. When an AI solves everything for you, you never build intuition, you never spot your mistakes, and you don\'t…

Most artificial intelligence tools function in the same manner: you pose a query, the AI provides a complete, polished response, and you copy-paste it into your work. However, this approach does not foster learning. When an AI resolves all queries, you fail to build intuition, spot your errors, or truly learn. To address this issue, we developed Guidey and have made it open-source.

The main issue with AI tutors is that they function as mere chatbots, dispensing paragraphs of text instead of serving as effective educators. Unlike human teachers, who engage learners through a dialogue, asking probing questions such as "Where did you get stuck?" or "What do you believe the subsequent step should be?", AI tutors simply provide answers, acting as cheat sheets.

Guidey operates on a different principle. It aims to guide learners without revealing the answer prematurely. It offers step-by-step hints, pinpointing where you're struggling and gently steering you in the right direction. It engages in an interactive back-and-forth, asking follow-up questions to ascertain your understanding or if you're merely guessing.

It is patient, allowing you to ask as many questions as you need, experiment multiple times, and progress at your own pace. It is straightforward, practical, and genuinely aids comprehension of the task at hand.

Guidey is completely free and open-source. To test it, visit the live web app at guidey.exortic.com or explore the code on GitHub at github.com/exorticlabs/guidey. We've just released version 1.0.0, so feel free to clone the code, experiment with it, run it locally, and share your feedback. Any bugs discovered or suggestions for improving the hint flow are most welcome - pull requests and issues are open for everyone.
