Lucky Cement Announces Huge Expansion Plan for Pakistan and Congo

Lucky Cement Limited is set to significantly expand its cement production capacity in Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, aiming to meet rising demand and enhance its global presence. The Karachi facility is slated to commence commercial operations by December 2027, while construction for the Congo project began in the second quarter of fiscal year 2028, with completion expected within 18 months.

The Karachi expansion is expected to boost domestic and export demand, whereas the Congo project will bolster the company's international standing.

In addition to the expansion plans, Lucky Cement is also boosting its renewable energy portfolio. The company plans to add 15 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity at its Pezu plant, raising its total installed solar capacity to 104.3MW. Moreover, the installation of 22.5MW of wind turbines will increase the company's total installed wind capacity to 51.3MW. By the second quarter of fiscal year 2028, the company's total renewable energy capacity is projected to reach 221.6MW.

Lucky Cement's domestic sales volume rose by 13% to 1.8 million tons in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, up from 1.6 million tons in the same period last year. Its domestic market share expanded to 16.8% from 16.1% a year prior. However, export sales volume declined by 1.9% to 0.81 million tons from 0.83 million tons, though the company's export market share increased to 35.2% from 31.9%.

Net revenue for the quarter increased 21% to Rs. 41.1 billion, with gross profit rising 14% to Rs. 15.1 billion. Operating profit grew 12% to Rs. 11.8 billion, and profit after tax climbed 17% to Rs. 17.1 billion. At the consolidated level, revenue increased 5% to Rs. 131.9 billion, with gross profit up 3% to Rs. 34 billion. Operating profit declined slightly by 0.7% to Rs. 26.6 billion, and profit after tax dropped 4% to Rs. 22.6 billion.
