Healey faces bingo backlash as Budget tax raid puts 77 sites and 1,200 jobs at risk

Ghana's Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson will deliver the 2027 Budget to Parliament on November 12, according to Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem. The presentation will highlight the government's New Economy agenda and job creation as key focus areas. The Deputy Finance Minister emphasized that timely release of the report supports informed debate in Parliament and advocates for providing members with access to the Ghana Statistical Service's dashboard.

The budget's concentration on job creation, economic transformation, and growth-oriented spending aims to capitalize on recent economic gains. Dr Forson is expected to announce strategies to propel Ghana beyond stability towards sustained growth and employment. The proposed theme for the budget is "New Economy, New Ghana: Jobs and Prosperity."

The budget is expected to prioritize local value addition to boost production, export earnings, and jobs. It may include substantial allocations to complete ongoing infrastructure projects while adhering to the government's fiscal and debt framework. Dr Forson may also propose lowering the primary surplus target to allocate more resources to priority spending.

The government anticipates economic growth of around 5% in 2027 and inflation of 8%, with a two-percentage-point tolerance band. The medium-term strategy seeks to maintain fiscal and debt sustainability while enabling investments that foster economic transformation. The New Economy Programme will be a central component, focusing on growth-oriented spending and expanding economic opportunities to support employment.
