FuelTech launches next-generation Gas Valve Train Mk V for LNG propulsion

Developed for Everllence’s ME-GI 10.7 engine platform, the new Gas Valve Train Mk V builds on more than a decade of commercial GVT experience, introducing higher pressure capability alongside improvements in reliability and serviceability. FuelTech today announces the launch of GVT Mk V, the latest generation of its Gas Valve Train technology for LNG propulsion. ...

FuelTech has unveiled its latest innovation, the Gas Valve Train Mk V, a next-generation component designed for LNG propulsion in marine engines. This advanced technology, built on decades of experience in commercial Gas Valve Train systems, introduces a higher pressure capability of up to 380 bar alongside improvements in reliability and serviceability.

Developed for Everllence’s ME-GI 10.7 engine platform, GVT Mk V addresses the evolving demands of shipowners who must balance operational efficiency with changing marine fuel outlooks. As fuel availability, economics, regulation, and decarbonization requirements evolve, GVT Mk V offers a solution that combines current performance with long-term flexibility.

With over 900 units already delivered and installed in more than 800 vessels worldwide, GVT Mk V leverages a rich history of commercial and operational experience with LNG fuel systems. Its higher pressure capability enables it to accommodate the demands of modern LNG engines, enhancing system efficiency. The design also features optimized internal flow paths to minimize pressure losses, while an enhanced valve design boosts durability and extends operating life.

Significant operational improvements include access from four service sides, as opposed to the previous three, allowing for easier access to critical components during maintenance. The electronics have been consolidated and repositioned, and key components are grouped for simplified inspection and maintenance. These enhancements simplify service activities, bolster system reliability, and increase uptime over the system's lifetime.

Michael Asger Wulff, Chief Commercial Officer at FuelTech, explains that the launch of GVT Mk V draws on the experience from more than 900 units already in service, ensuring a robust foundation for the new generation. For shipowners already operating LNG-fueled vessels, GVT Mk V offers a pathway to maintain existing infrastructure and operational expertise while adapting to new technical and regulatory requirements.

This enables operators to continue developing their LNG operations without starting from scratch, while also gaining flexibility as fuel availability, economics, and regulatory requirements evolve.

By adopting GVT Mk V, shipowners can extend the value of their existing LNG investments, support today's more efficient operations, and contribute to the industry's longer-term transition towards lower-emission shipping. The Gas Valve Train Mk V is now available for order, with first commercial deliveries expected in the third quarter of 2027.
