FTO Issues Final Warning Against Lazy Officers

The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has issued a final warning to officers and advisors, emphasizing the importance of prompt and efficient complaint resolution. Zafar Hijazi, the FTO's chief, introduced a new Code of Conduct that outlines strict standards of integrity, impartiality, transparency, and professional responsibility. Hijazi warned that any delays or procrastination in adjudicating complaints will not be tolerated.

Officers and advisors are now required to conduct their duties independently, free from pressure or bias, and to avoid conflicts of interest. They must investigate complaints carefully and impartially, relying on relevant records and applicable laws. Advisors are also instructed to avoid unnecessary communication, requests for additional documents, adjournments, and procedural delays.

The code stresses the importance of treating complainants with courtesy and respect, ensuring the confidentiality and security of official records, and providing necessary guidance. Advisors will be held personally accountable for their decisions, with each advisor responsible for their respective actions. Hijazi urged advisors to seek guidance directly from him if needed.

The FTO aims to provide timely relief to complainants, and the new code of conduct is expected to enhance public confidence in the institution's effectiveness.
