Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - On October 24, 2026, Alexander Volkanovski of Australia successfully defended his UFC featherweight championship title against Movsar Evloev of Russia, defeating the previously undefeated fighter with a technical knockout in the second round. Volkanovski, who is considering a retirement fight against Justin Gaethje, expressed his belief that former Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling deserves a title shot over Brazilian knockout artist Silva, provided Sterling secures a victory over Kevin Vallejos at UFC Qatar on November 21.
Volkanovski stated, "I believe if Aljamain wins another fight, I feel like Aljamain deserves it more than Silva." He added, "Aljo is in a great position. I think he just needs to wait and see what happens with Aljo." Sterling has won consecutive Featherweight fights against Brian Ortega and Youssef Zalal, with a potential extension of his winning streak to three if he defeats Vallejos.
