Akandoh urges contractors to speed up La General Hospital project ahead of 2028 deadline

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has called on contractors working on the €50 million La General Hospital project to expedite construction to meet the January 2028 deadline. During an inspection, the Minister acknowledged the progress made thus far but emphasized the importance of speeding up the work due to the hospital's significance to residents of La and surrounding areas.

Akandoh urged contractors to maintain the necessary pace to meet the scheduled completion date, dismissing delays in payments as a reason for slow progress. The government has been making payments on time, and the latest interim payment certificate has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance. The Minister also suggested a review of the proposed capacity of the hospital's emergency department to ensure it meets the facility's needs adequately.

The €50 million project encompasses constructing the hospital and installing the required medical equipment. Akandoh assured that the Ministry of Health would continue monitoring the project to ensure progress according to schedule and ensure the hospital is completed and equipped for use. The completed La General Hospital will enhance access to healthcare services for residents of La and neighboring communities.
