Yle names Krista Taubert as new head of news and sports

Taubert will begin working in the role from 1 November.

Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle has named Krista Taubert as the new Director and Editor-in-Chief of its News and Sports division. Taubert expressed her commitment to providing the audience with a truthful and balanced portrayal of Finland and the world. As the head of the unit, she will oversee news, current affairs, sports, events, and local content in various languages, excluding Swedish and Sámi.

Taubert was introduced to her colleagues by Yle CEO Marit af Björkesten on Wednesday morning. Af Björkesten emphasized the growing significance of reliable information in today's world and expressed her delight at having such a seasoned journalist and ambitious leader to steer the news journalism forward.

Taubert took on the role of acting Director and Editor-in-Chief in June, following the serious illness and subsequent death of her predecessor, Panu Pokkinen, on July 8th after a second cardiac arrest at home.
