XRechnung erstellen: was ein Shopify Shop wissen muss

Many Shopify merchants are just learning about XRechnung. Here's the essential information in a nutshell. What is an XRechnung? It's not a PDF file, but a structured XML file following the European standard EN 16931. A human can barely read it without a viewer, but software can process it automatically. And what about ZUGFeRD? ZUGFeRD is a hybrid format: a standard PDF with structured XML data embedded.

The recipient sees a familiar invoice, and its software reads the data. Both formats meet the new rules if they comply with EN 16931. Who does the obligation affect? Only B2B invoices between companies. Invoices to private customers are not affected. As of 2025, every company must be able to receive E-Invoices. Starting in 2027, companies with over €800,000 in annual revenue must send E-Invoices.

Starting in 2028, the obligation applies to all. For a shop with mostly end customers, little changes. If you sell to business customers, you should prepare now. What does this mean for Shopify? To create E-Invoices or ZUGFeRD from Shopify orders, you need an app. We've built one for that: Faktwise creates ZUGFeRD and XRechnung invoices directly from Shopify orders.

It's free for up to 25 invoices per month, the Unlimited Plan costs $22 per month. Detailed guidelines with all mandatory information are available here: Create XRechnung .

GitHub keeps the GPS in photos you attach to issues

There's a little genre of bug report on GitHub where someone notices an app doesn't strip location data from uploaded images. OpenSourcePOS has one that's been open since June 2024.

  • GitHub retains GPS metadata in photos attached to issue reports.
  • 556 out of 12,011 analyzed JPEGs still contained GPS data.
  • iPhones and Android devices retain GPS information unless privacy settings are adjusted.
