‘Previous Delhi govt gave nod’: Officials defend online liquor booking app amid row
The DSIIDC has developed a mobile application that allows advance booking of liquor from retail vends in the national Capital.
In 2024, the Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) obtained approval from the previous Delhi government to launch an online liquor booking app, aiming to enhance transparency and deter brand pushing in retail sales. The Delhi Liquor Booking app was unveiled after necessary trials, allowing customers to reserve liquor and collect it from DSIIDC vends.
The app's launch in November 2025 followed an order for development issued on January 2, 2025. Initially compatible with Android devices, a QR-code-enabled micro-site was introduced on September 6 to cater to iOS users, ensuring platform neutrality.
During its inaugural year, the app facilitated 3,629 transactions, amounting to approximately ₹13 lakh worth of liquor sold. This financial year, the app has recorded 10,730 transactions, generating revenue of around ₹30 lakh. Post registration, customers can monitor stock online, book, and pay digitally, thereby circumventing brand pushing. The purchased order must be collected in person from the designated store, with no home delivery option available. However, the order can be canceled before pickup.
To ensure responsible consumption, users must verify they are above the legal drinking age of 25 years. The app also seeks to reduce crowds outside liquor stores, potentially preventing law and order issues. The DSIIDC manages over 700 retail liquor stores across Delhi, with the online booking service currently operational at more than 200 of these outlets.
