The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Onoja Samuel, was arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for firing shots into the air during a confrontation with market traders in Abuja's Kubwa area. Samuel had gone to the market carrying a pistol after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh reported that a distress call was received at Kubwa Police Division on October 25th, 2026, at around 1:50 pm regarding an unidentified man firing sporadically into the air. Upon arrival, police operatives promptly disarmed and arrested Samuel, who was identified as a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC.
The investigation revealed that Samuel had gone to the market armed with a pistol following the reported assault on his wife. During an argument with the traders, he discharged several shots into the air. During his arrest, a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from Samuel. He is currently in police custody and will be charged to court following the completion of investigations.
Ahmed Sanusi, Commissioner of Police in the FCT, urged personnel from other security agencies to exercise restraint and notify the police divisions responsible for the areas where they intend to conduct authorized operations to prevent avoidable clashes.
