MacKenzie Scott's $10m gift helps turn rundown motel site into 30 homes

A former motel in Columbia, South Carolina, is being redeveloped into 30 affordable rental homes as part of a $12.8 million project by nonprofit Homeless No More. The development is partly supported by a $10 million donation made by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott to United Way of the Midlands in 2020. Construction began on October 13, with homes expected to be completed within a year.
