An NSCDC officer, identified as Onoja Samuel, has been arrested for allegedly firing gunshots in Kubwa market, Abuja, on Monday. The incident came to light after the Federal Capital Territory Police released a statement on Wednesday. The Kubwa Police Division received a distress call about a man with a pistol firing shots into the air at the market.

It is reported that the suspect, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps, had gone to the market armed with a pistol following rumors that some traders had assaulted his wife. The officer reportedly engaged the traders in an argument before firing several shots into the air. During his arrest, police recovered a CZ pistol and seventeen (17) rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect.

The NSCDC officer is currently in police custody and will be charged to court following the completion of investigations.
