Fernando Da Cruz thanks Kaizer Chiefs board after earning crucial vote of confidence
Fernando Da Cruz appreciated backing from sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr, pointing to bad luck with injuries and draws after progressing in the Carling Knockout.
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz expressed gratitude to the club's board after receiving a vote of confidence from sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior. The team has faced a challenging season, marked by several draws in the Betway Premiership and an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. Frustration among supporters led to calls for Da Cruz and his staff to be dismissed, but Motaung Jr. urged patience and support for the technical team.
Da Cruz emphasized the importance of regular meetings with Motaung Jr. to discuss team strategies and ways to improve. He acknowledged that despite the outcomes of matches, continuous analysis and improvement are crucial. The convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout round of 16 provided a significant morale boost for the club.
Da Cruz noted that the team would have been more successful if not for draws they deserved to win and a high number of injuries sustained during the season. The win over TS Galaxy offers Chiefs a positive outlook as they prepare for their upcoming Soweto derby against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, a match that would further validate the trust placed in them by the board and Motaung Junior.
