Ugwumba Enyinnaya, a man from Ebonyi, has been arrested by the Police Command for allegedly impersonating and practicing as a lawyer for over ten years. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, announced the arrest in a press statement released in Abakaliki. The investigation was sparked by a petition from Mr. David Chukwu, who claimed that the suspect took N650,000 from him in March 2026 to help with a street-naming request in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.

According to Ukandu, the suspect falsely presented himself as a lawyer with years of experience while collecting the money. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been parading himself as a legal practitioner despite lacking the necessary qualifications. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to not being a lawyer.

The police recovered various items from the suspect's apartment, including a Nigerian Bar Association seal, photographs of the suspect in barrister's attire, degree certificates from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, and legal documents such as powers of attorney and deeds of conveyance. The suspect has been charged to court, and CP Hope Okafor, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, praised the officers for their diligence in uncovering the alleged impersonation.

The police urged the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals claiming to be qualified legal practitioners.
