Wildcat Wrap: Arizona men’s golf tested against top competition at East Lake Cup

Arizona men's golf faced off against higher-ranked teams at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Georgia. The Wildcats finished fourth out of four teams in stroke play, trailing Auburn by one-over par, Oklahoma State by eleven-under, and UCLA by eight-under. The four schools had previously been semifinalists in last year's NCAA Championships.

Arizona's Tianyi Xiong led the team in stroke play with a two-under score, placing sixth individually. Arizona suffered a 4-1 defeat to Auburn in match play on Tuesday, with Xiong contributing the lone point for the Wildcats. The team entered the tournament unranked, while Auburn currently sits at No. 3 nationally. Arizona's starting lineup included returners William Wistrand and Matej Baca, along with newcomers Jorge Sampedro and freshman Adam Fahey.

Swimming and diving also showcased competition, with the women's team securing a split against SMU in a home meet. Kelsey Wasikowski led the women with victories in the 100 yard breast and 200 yard breast events, along with a first-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Tomas Lukminas guided Arizona's men's team to wins in the 50 yard free and 100 yard free events, as well as a first-place finish in the 400 yard free relay.

Arizona will next face off in a four-team meet in Los Angeles on November 7 against UCLA, USC, and ASU. The women's golf team finished a tie for fifth at the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate, with Oregon leading the field at 28-under. Sophomore Kinsley Ni was Arizona's top performer in the tournament with a 9-under score, being the only UW golfer to shoot under par.

Arizona will have a break before returning in February for the Thunderbird Intercollegiate, which will be held at Tucson Country Club.
