Saudi-led coalition intercepts Houthi missiles, drones targeting kingdom

On Tuesday, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced they had intercepted and destroyed ballistic missiles and drones launched by the Houthi rebels towards two regions of Saudi Arabia. The Houthis fired three ballistic missiles towards the eastern region and four drones towards the southern region, according to the coalition.

The Saudi Civil Defence had issued early warning alerts for a potential hostile threat in both the eastern region and Kharj governorate. However, they later reported that the danger had passed in both areas.

Since the Houthis captured strategic areas along Yemen's Red Sea coast last month, the kingdom has intensified its strikes against the rebels. The Houthis' advance towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital global shipping route for Gulf oil producers, has led to a renewed conflict between the two sides. This conflict has shattered a 2022 UN-brokered truce that had largely halted attacks between the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen's internationally recognized government, and the Houthis.

The Houthis control the capital Sanaa, and the escalation of violence has opened another front in the US-Israeli war on Iran.
