Jogeshwari SRA Project Under Scrutiny Over Alleged Illegal Allotment Of 303 Flats And Shops, Complaint Sent To CM Devendra Fadnavis

A slum redevelopment project in Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, is under scrutiny after 303 flats and shops were allegedly illegally allocated to fraudulent beneficiaries. Janak Keshriya, a resident, raised concerns about the irregularities in the SRA project, stating that the flats and shops in rehabilitation building R1 to R6 in Raghvendra Sahakar CHS were awarded to individuals without proper eligibility.

Keshriya has also written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and SRA CEO Mahendra Kalyankar, alleging serious irregularities, fraud and illegal allotments.

The complainant has been dissatisfied with the lack of response from junior-level officials and the SRA, as he had filed an RTI seeking information about eligible slum dwellers, PAP/PTC status, and sale component details since May 2026. Despite multiple complaints, no concrete actions have been taken by authorities. The SRA, however, maintains that the eligibility of beneficiaries is determined by other authorities.

A senior SRA official clarified that flats are allocated only to eligible beneficiaries, and these are decided after a survey and documentation by the civic ward office for BMC land or the deputy collector for collector land.

Keshriya mentioned that several residents have approached the additional collector regarding the eligibility issue, but there has been no progress. The Raghvendra CHS SRA scheme comprises five buildings, each with 20 plus storeys, with four completed and possession granted. However, the final tower is yet to be built, 20 years after the project's initiation. One resident, Kalim Khan, had been allocated a flat in the C wing of R3 building but has been residing in transit accommodation for the past 17 years.

Another resident, who is not a complainant, expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in the project, stating that they have been living in a transit accommodation building in Gulshan Nagar, which is now under a notice for demolition due to its weak/dilapidated condition. The SRA claims that the earlier developer faced delays, resulting in the project's cancellation, and they are confident that the current developer will execute the work on time.
