Jay-Z picks himself to headline the Super Bowl halftime show

Jay-Z, the accomplished music mogul who has contributed to the production of Super Bowl halftime shows, will headline the upcoming event himself. NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced on Monday that Jay-Z will be the featured performer for the halftime festivities on February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The announcement came after days of speculation surrounding the choice of performer.

This marks Jay-Z's return to SoFi Stadium, where he closed his "Jay-Z 30" concert series over the weekend. The artist's Roc Nation has been collaborating with the NFL since 2019 to advise and help produce the league's entertainment presentations, including the Super Bowl halftime show. Initially, Jay-Z had expressed his reluctance to perform, having told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." However, seven years later, he is now ready to take the stage.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been exceptionally successful in his career, with 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations to his name. His discography includes hit albums such as "Reasonable Doubt," "The Blueprint" and "The Black Album," along with popular tracks like "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)," "99 Problems" and "Empire State of Mind," a collaboration with Alicia Keys.

In 2017, Jay-Z became the first rapper inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. His influence extends beyond music, as he co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and founded Roc Nation in 2008, which has grown into an entertainment company working with artists and athletes.

Bad Bunny, another prominent artist, headlined last season's Super Bowl halftime show in February, with his songs experiencing significant boosts in streaming charts, playlists, and music discovery platforms in the hours following the performance.
