Groves flag football off to 14-0 start looking for a deep playoff run

Groves High School's flag football team has begun its season with a remarkable 14-0 record and is now set to pursue a deep playoff run. Quarterback Tamiya Washington, a two-way senior, has thrown for 2,534 yards and 36 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 667 yards and nine more scores, while intercepting 10 passes. Despite her strong performance, Washington prefers playing defense, which has been key to the team's success, allowing them to outscore opponents by a massive 315-7.

Coach Johnny Anderson, who has led the program since its inception four years ago, has seen the team grow from a low point of just 18-3 last year to being ranked fourth in the state among Division 3 teams. Washington earned All-Greater Savannah first-team honors last season and continues to lead by example on and off the field. The team, now consisting of 30 girls, credits their strong bond and coach for their success.
