FM Cho says to meet Rubio this week, raise visa issue involving DP lawmaker

Foreign Minister Cho plans to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his upcoming visit to the United States. The purpose of the meeting is to address a visa issue involving a lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), as well as other bilateral matters. This was announced during a parliamentary audit of the foreign and unification ministries, in response to a request by Rep. Hong Kee-won for the government to formally express its concerns over the U.S. visa issue involving DPK lawmaker Jung Chung-rae.

Cho is scheduled to visit the U.S. the day after tomorrow for a G20 foreign ministers meeting and intends to raise the visa issue during his visit. The foreign ministry has also emphasized Cho's intention to establish bilateral meetings with counterparts from other major nations to discuss global and regional issues during the G20 gathering.
