Why is Wilcox in line of fire from Man Utd fans?
With Michael Carrick's position as Man Utd boss under scrutiny, focus has also turned to director of football Jason Wilcox.
Manchester United fans directed their ire at director of football Jason Wilcox during a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth. This came after defender Lisandro Martinez criticized the club's management for failing to strengthen the squad. Wilcox, a former England winger, joined United in April 2024 as technical director, initially from Manchester City.
He worked across all technical areas of the club but was later made answerable to the sporting director. Wilcox's role changes and the club's poor results have put him under pressure. Despite not being involved in transfers or injuries, United fans have blamed him for the team's recent struggles. Wilcox has received public support from the club only twice, once when Ruben Amorim was appointed as Ten Hag's successor and again when Amorim faced criticism from United's management.
However, Wilcox has been mostly silent, speaking only once to the media. With Michael Carrick's popularity intact and Jim Ratcliffe, the minority owner, not offering his opinion, the focus is now on Wilcox as United fans demand action.
