tvOS 27.2 just launched for Apple TV 4K, here’s what’s new

Apple has recently released tvOS 27.2 for Apple TV 4K users, bringing a host of new and improved features to the platform. One of the standout additions is the expansion of user profiles, which now extend to iPhone and iPad for the first time in iOS 27.2. This makes profiles more versatile and useful across devices.

In addition to improved profiles, Apple has introduced a fresh selection of characters for users to choose from when setting up their profiles. These new characters can be found in The Snoopy Show, Frog & Toad, and Stillwater, adding a touch of personality to the TV app.

tvOS 27.2 also brings a new feature called "Shuffle" for screen savers. When users select a category, the Shuffle option automatically cycles through Aerials, Memories & Slideshows, Portraits, and Snoopy screen savers, providing a dynamic and ever-changing selection of visuals.

Another noteworthy addition is the support for ASL (American Sign Language) and BSL (British Sign Language) in select movies and TV shows within the Apple TV app. Users can toggle these languages on from the Settings app or player controls, making media more accessible to a wider audience.

Apple Music has undergone a rebrand, and tvOS 27.2 includes a new app icon for the Music app, along with minor design updates across the platform to align with the rebranding efforts.

Looking ahead, Apple has hinted at several more exciting updates set to launch alongside tvOS 27.2. One of the most anticipated features is Siri AI, Apple's major overhaul to the virtual assistant. Siri AI will be available on Apple TV 4K 2nd generation and later, offering a more capable and conversational experience with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, and the ability to perform various system-wide app actions.

Additionally, the upcoming 4th generation Apple TV 4K will exclusively support a surround sound HomePod feature in tvOS 27.2. This will enable users to utilize four compatible HomePods as two front and two rear speakers, delivering an "ultimate audio experience" according to Apple.
