Members of the band The National are supporting Dr. Amy Acton's gubernatorial campaign in Ohio and the re-election bid of Senator Sherrod Brown. Lead singer Matt Berninger and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Dessner are organizing a rally in Cincinnati this Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. ET. Acton, who served as Ohio's health director during the COVID-19 pandemic, is running against Vivek Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy's recent ad featured Acton's estranged mother, Donna Arthur, which sparked bipartisan criticism. Acton and Arthur have not spoken since 12-year-old Acton was removed from her mother's custody after her stepfather's rape charge. The controversial ad received criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, including Ohio's current governor Mike DeWine and former President Donald Trump.
Other prominent Ohio natives backing Acton include John Legend, who will appear with her in Dayton today.
