Sungai Udang petunjuk BN sasar 19 kerusi Wawasan pada PRU16, dakwa Puad

Dr Aleef Yusof, the Deputy United Nations (DUN) representative for Sungai Udang, has criticized the Barisan Nasional (BN) for placing their candidate in the constituency as a means to target strategic allies PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN). The 2014 election was won by Aleef, who had previously represented Bersatu, but he announced his joining of Wawasan on October 2nd.

He urged PN to consider standing alone in the upcoming PRN Melaka, as the leadership of PN appears to prioritize BN's political agenda without considering the interests of their allies. Aleef explained that this move is not a discussion with PAS, but rather a challenge to PAS, with the ultimate goal of benefiting PN's component parties.

Earlier this week, Wawasan's President Hamzah Zainudin emphasized the importance of defending Sungai Udang and Bemban in the PRN Melaka as the Umno-led BN aims to retain 21 seats. He noted that it is within Wawasan's rights to contest two seats based on the "preserve seats win" concept in the upcoming PRN. Aleef perceived BN's Melaka leadership, Ab Rauf Yusoh's actions as an unfair attempt to take advantage of strategic allies.

He stated that the people expected PN to contest seats predominantly held by Malays to ensure the alliance's victory. However, Rauf's actions not only jeopardize BN-PN relations but also risk undermining the overall unity of the Malay community. On the night of the 2021 PRN Melaka, BN contested 21 seats, including Sungai Udang, naming Rais Yasin as their candidate.

In the 2021 PRN Melaka election, Aleef won Sungai Udang with 530 votes, defeating BN's candidate Mohamad Ali Mohamad (6,269 votes), PH candidate Hasmorni Tamby (2,035 votes), and independent Zahar Hashim (471 votes).
