Serbia’s student-led movement defeats Vučić, ending his 14-year rule
The election defeat of former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who had been in power since 2017 and enjoyed the backing of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, amounted to a “political earthquake” for Serbia. Vučić lost to a student-led movement he had described as “a foreign-directed attempt to remove him from office.”
