Saudi Arabia seeks agreement through talks with Iran

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye met with Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday to discuss regional security and prevent escalation. The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated the negotiations are important for opening channels of communication and creating conditions for an agreement. During the meeting, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for unity among Muslim nations against Israeli aggression and criticized US policies.

He also stated that Iran is pursuing peaceful nuclear activities under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

According to Gulf News, the diplomatic efforts continue as Houthi missile and drone attacks have disrupted air travel in Saudi Arabia. Aviation analytics firm Cirium reported that 4,071 out of 4,736 scheduled flights at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport were cancelled between October 8 and October 25.

The Jerusalem Post and Al-Monitor report that Egypt’s parliament authorized the military on Monday to provide support to help defend Saudi Arabia. This follows a request from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to approve defending the Gulf ally if requested, particularly regarding threats from Iran-backed Houthis. While Egypt joined a Saudi-led coalition in 2015, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty indicated this month that membership in the Mecca mutual defense pact involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey remains under serious consideration.
