Medical centre targeted in Melbourne arson attack
Police are investigating a suspected arson attack at the Moonee Vale Clinic overnight, as well as a separate incident outside a Brighton home.
An arson attack targeted a medical centre in Melbourne's north-west overnight, causing extensive damage. Police stated the clinic on Shuter Street in Moonee Ponds was set ablaze in the early hours of the morning. The offenders smashed the front window before using an accelerant to ignite the building just after 2am. The Moonee Vale Clinic specializes in women's health, cosmetic, and skin cancer treatments.
It is situated adjacent to a beauty salon that has been a victim of arson attacks previously. Police are investigating whether the latest incident is connected to the earlier attack. Approximately an hour before the Moonee Ponds incident, two cars were set on fire in a separate incident on Brighton's Manor Street around 1:20am. Police believe the suspects rammed the front gate of the residence before pouring accelerant along the driveway towards the home and two parked vehicles, which were completely destroyed.
The residents were not injured, but the vehicles were entirely damaged. An arson chemist will attend both locations today as investigators continue their inquiries into the two incidents. Any information or dashcam footage is requested by CrimeStoppers.
