Maharashtra FDA Suspends Blinkit’s Bhiwandi Licence Over ₹32.71 Lakh In Expired Food Stock

Mumbai, October 26, 2026 - Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has halted the food business license of Blink Commerce Private Limited's Bhiwandi facility due to the discovery of 18,405 expired, spoiled, and unsellable food items amounting to Rs 32.71 lakh. An FIR was lodged on October 23 by a food safety officer against the company, with the case falling under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

An inspection on October 23 revealed incomplete records of transportation and disposal, with the company unable to provide crucial documents. These included weighment slips, vehicle details, e-way bills, goods receipt records, CCTV footage, time-stamped photographs, and disposal certificates to prove that the products were disposed of via authorized channels.

The FDA questions the company's disposal documentation, suggesting agreements with two agencies were not enough to prove product collection and destruction. The investigation into potential diversion and reintroduction of expired products into the market is ongoing. Previously, from October 14 and 15, seven FDA teams inspected Bhiwandi, Ambernath, Chakan, and Nighoje, finding expired and spoiled food products valued at Rs 48.09 lakh.
