During the show, Maher defended the meeting with the president while continuing to criticize and joke about him.

This has sparked criticism of Maher for engaging with Trump despite their political differences. Maher has argued that speaking directly with the president is worthwhile and that he enjoyed the experience. He also praised Maher's interactions with Trump's former press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who appeared on the show alongside Maher.

However, Maher's monologue also included a series of jokes and criticisms directed at Trump, mocking his approval ratings and recent comments about men's physiques.
