Bazzite, an open-source Linux operating system designed to provide SteamOS-like functionality, has now extended its reach to gaming handhelds, with the first handheld it supports being the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20. The team behind the OS claims that the Acer Predator Atlas 8, powered by Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme, is next on their list.
The Bazzite team has managed to resolve most of the major issues with the X20, enabling full control of its VRR and HDR display functions, TDP control of the Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, fully mappable back buttons, as well as working sleep and wake functions. However, work is still ongoing for the RGB Lighting and Fan Control curve functionalities.
In the meantime, Bazzite recommends Decky plugins, such as Panel de Control, as a temporary workaround for these features. The team is also requesting owners of the X20 to help by reporting any issues they encounter while running the OS on their handheld. As for the Acer Predator Atlas 8, the Bazzite team has already managed to enable initial button mapping, left-side menu functionality, QAM/Predator functionality retention, and the OpenGamepadUI overlay.
