Apple Officially Unveils New iPad mini With OLED Display, A20 Pro Chip

Ahead of its upcoming "Pro and tell" event, Apple has refreshed the iPad mini with several upgrades. This 8th-generation model boasts a thinner and lighter design, measuring just 5.4mm and weighing either 255g or 263g. The tablet is IP67 rated for dust and water resistance. Its standout feature is an 8.5-inch OLED display, made possible by 24% slimmer bezels. The Super Retina XDR screen features an improved resolution of 2,316 x 1,512 pixels, 1,200 nits of peak brightness, and support for the P3 wide color gamut.

The device is powered by the A20 Pro chip, with different variants receiving slightly varied versions of the chip. The 128GB and 256GB models get a 5-core CPU, while the 512GB variant matches the one found in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple claims up to 4.5x faster AI performance and a 2.7x boost in graphics performance compared to the previous generation.

The new iPad mini supports the latest WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread standards, along with the C2 modem for 5G connectivity. An 18.9Wh battery can last up to ten hours of web surfing via WiFi. The tablet's 12MP Center Stage front camera has been repositioned to the landscape edge, while a 12MP camera on the back supports Smart HDR 4 and 4K video recording at 60fps.

Notable additions include Apple's Acoustic Display, which integrates woofers and tweeters into the screen for enhanced audio quality, and the option to use the Apple Pencil (USB-C) or Apple Pencil Pro. Pre-orders will begin on 29 October 2026, with sales starting on 6 November 2026. The tablet will be available in midnight and starlight finishes, with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

Pricing starts at RM2,999 for WiFi-only models and RM3,699 for the WiFi + cellular option. A new TechWoven Smart Folio is priced at RM349.
